Today's Update - MRI News
(First published on CaringBridge, December 2018)
The MRI results from yesterday confirmed what the doctors had suspected. Once Chandler failed to respond to basic commands after the sedation was pulled to a large extent, the suspicion was DAI--diffuse axonal injury. The MRI confirmed severe DAI. While this is not good news on any planet, it was an answer to prayer. We needed definitive information to consider in addition to Chandler's presenting clinical picture, the CT, his progress thus far, and the entire constellation of data from all the professionals who have been caring for him the past two weeks.
I will update as soon as there is more to tell.
For now, since I have the mic, I get to talk. We are living through the unimaginable, and many of you have said to us that you don't know how we have the strength to do this. Ironically, you are part of that strength. Each text, prayer, visit, tin of cookies, hug has given us strength to put one foot in front of the other. Our hearts feel as if they are being crushed, but we just keep going--because of the love of friends, family, and even new friends we made because of Chandler two weeks ago.
And we keep going because at the core of our being, we believe that there is a power greater than us that holds all things together. Our faith is the stability beneath a world that for us has been turned upside down. We just celebrated Christmas, and as I said in a previous post, we have experienced more than ever the reality of what it meant for Jesus to come to earth. He felt pain and experienced rejection. God feels our hurt. He cries with us. He is holding Chandler. That is where our hope and our strength lie. I pray that those of you who are deeply hurting with us will allow the peace and strength of Christ to hold your hearts. And know that whatever you believe, you have been an instrument in God's hand to help carry us through this.
