Llamas, Dancing, Soda, and Pilates
You know it’s going to be a great day when you encounter a camel and a couple of llamas in the parking lot before 10 am. And, no, I hadn’t been drinking. They were for real.
Today Charli joined me for Animals Everywhere, a self-explanatory community event that Mission Hills has participated in for a few years. Once again, our aqua balls were a big hit with the kids as well as our helium balloons.
Our booth was right beside the cutest llamas you’ve ever seen. Not that you’ve seen lots of llamas. If you had, you would know these ranked right up there with the cutest of them. As cute as they were, they weren’t very cooperative when it came to posing with us for pictures. They were in the pen with a cow and a couple of tortoises. I was reminded how grateful I am not to be a tortoise or to be married to one as I watched one of the shelled creatures eat, yes eat, cow poop.
The DJ playing music for the event was so good! We sang along the whole day while blowing up balloons and tying them onto tiny wrists. At the end of the day, we joined in and danced to the Macarena, Cupid Shuffle, and ChaCha Slide. Charli killed it dancing to Baby Baby by Bieber. I had a flashback to the 4th grade Sacramento state capitol field trip. A dad had brought his guitar, and we were having a sing-along to Baby Baby. Not too long after, a friend of Charli’s threw up on me. I felt so bad for her. Luckily, no one threw up today. It was just dancing and singing. And eating cow poop…if you were a tortoise.
After the event, Charli and I used a Dickey’s gift card generously given to us by a Mission Hills family when Chandler was in the hospital. Can I say how disproportionately happy I was when I discovered the soda machine? It’s the kind where you can choose from a bajillion different kinds of soda, including Caffeine-Free and Diet — BOTH in one soda! AND…there was caffeine-free diet cherry vanilla Coke! What!??? Yes, I know diet soda isn’t good for you, but I never have it, and when I got the chance to splurge with the cherry vanilla caffeine-free variety, I decided to throw caution to the wind.
When we got home, I jumped onto my Pilates reformer and did a workout. Reformer workouts are all love-love, no love-hate. I fell in love with the Pilates reformer machine last summer and decided it was much cheaper to have one of my own than to pay the monthly cost to go to a reformer class. I pull out my reformer, switch on my diffuser with some Thieves essential oil and a bit of lavender, and turn on one of the many reformer workouts on John Garey TV. My time on the reformer helps me stay sane and is something I look forward to, a highlight in my day.
Once again, the simple pleasures of today brought exactly what I needed. A feeling of aliveness and an overwhelming sense of gratitude that — I’m NOT a tortoise.
